Gone are the days when parents would search for a childminder among the ads posted in their corner shop’s windows. Nowadays it’s the mouse that does the clicking to find a childminder. During their coffee or lunch break mum or dad would take time out to look for their local childminders online.

So you have one or two vacancies and no kids to mind, meaning less money coming in. Who knows that you have these vacancies? Most importantly, do people know that you are a registered childminder? Did you advertise? Where?

Let me guess - you have placed a few advertising cards in your locality. From past experience, I can tell you that your little card will remain invisible among the other little cards and memos pinned on some notice board.

Seriously, we are in 2011 and still I hear things like “you should advertise in your local shops, your children’s schools, the baby clinic and so on.” Isn’t that what our mothers were told when they were childminders?

This is what will happen to your childminding business if you don’t adapt. The way to do that, to adapt, is to advertise online. Get your internet presence and sell your services online. You only need one webpage with all the relevant information and your contact details.

There are so many online companies providing free website for small businesses these days. Register to get your free webpage today and claim you small space on the World Wide Web. These free websites are easy to build but if you haven't mastered the “drag and drop” technique just yet, don’t worry I have thought about that – hence why the childminders directory was created.

It is an advertising forum for all UK registered childminders. I have kept all the formalities to the minimum; it’s very basic and easy to use. You don’t even have to introduce yourself or say hello to me. I don’t mind. Just register and advertise, tell the world about your childminding services and the best thing about it is - it’s FREE.

So go there and create your free ad but please don’t just post one line saying, “Childminder has vacancies”. That's too little. If you do that, you will soon join the dinosaurs.

Remember that you are a business, you are selling your services  - your clients are the parents who will be reading what you have to offer. If they like what they read, then they will take the next vital step – that is, contacting you to arrange a meeting.
